Funding Brain Research To Fight Disease
HOME-About us >what we do
Psychobiology researchers at during laboratory experimentsWe provide approximately 50 grants per year totaling over two million dollars annually to support the research of outstanding scientists in academic and medical institutions throughout Israel. We support two world-class research institutes: the Charles E. Smith Family and Prof. Joel Elkes Laboratory for Collaborative Research in Psychobiology at Hebrew University, and the National Psychobiology Core Facility for advanced human brain mapping at Tel Aviv University and Sourasky Medical Center. The Harry Stern National Center for Research and Treatment of Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders operates under our aegis, and we also support the Charles E. Smith Lecture Series and the Drug Abuse Research Grant in Memory of Steven Smith. more  -  History

NIPI gives Israeli scientists the tools they need to perform cutting edge research that advances our knowledge of the brain as well as our ability to treat its many complex diseases. The opportunities created by NIPI also help keep Israel's best and brightest psychobiology researchers at home in Israel.
» NIPI allocates over $2,000,000 in annual research support, including institutional matching funds.
» 100% of all donated funds are channeled directly to research, and are matched by NIPI and the supporting institution.
» NIPI awards seven different types of grants and fellowships, targeting researchers at all career stages, and providing incentive for the best and brightest scientists to come to and stay in Israel.
» NIPI has uncompromising standards of scientific excellence. NIPI awards are given after a competitive review process by its distinguished national Scientific Advisory Board, with external and international reviewers consulted as well. Despite the very high level of grant applications, only about one third of all can be funded each year.
» NIPI establishes new laboratories and core research centers.
» NIPI is in the process of establishing opportunities to provide state-of-the-art equipment grants for existing and new labs and facilities.
» NIPI funds annual conferences featuring international scholars. It also funds travel grants for graduate and postdoctoral scientists and medical interns.
» NIPI assists all universities, institutes, and major hospitals in Israel.
» Research in Israel can cost 10-60% less than comparable research in Europe or America, meaning that your grants through NIPI can support considerably as much research.

NIPI is currently engaged in vigorous efforts to deepen our funding capacity and broaden our reach.
